A special person

8 February 2007 - Michel Menou

What makes ASIS&T different as a scientific society, in addition to its many unique characteristics, is its human dimension. Irrespective of their talents and accomplishments, which are often notorious, most members are the kind of persons one is happy to meet and spend even a short time together, one is even more sorry not to have met long enough.

Beth was one of these precious persons. Always attentive, supportive, enlightening.

A good friend and colleague

14 February 2007 - Schubert Foo

The Division had the good fortune of having Beth as a Senior Teaching Fellow for two years from 2001.  She was a very good colleague, extremely, positive, full of joy and energy, generous in smiles and full of words of encouragement. She taught children's and young adult literature, school librarianship to our MSc(Information Studies) students and worked with us on information literacy and accreditation research, among other things.  She obviously enjoyed her stinct at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, extending her original one year stay with us for another.  We will all miss her much and the forthcoming Dr. Elisabeth Lohr Logan Memorial Fund at Oberlin College is a fitting tribute to our friend and colleague.

A celebration of Beth's life will be held on Monday, February 19, 11:30 a.m., at Pisgah United Methodist Church followed by a reception at the Logan-Weld home. (Audio Tribute)

Elisabeth Lohr Logan, 71, died on January 31, 2007. Beth, as she was known to family and friends, lived life to the fullest. She taught at Florida State University's School of Information and Library Studies (now College of Information) from 1985 until 2001.

A dedicated teacher, she won the 1998 Outstanding Information Science Teacher Award from the American Society of Information Science. Dedicated in 2001, the "Logan Teaching Lab" at the College of Information recognizes her significant contributions to the school.

After retiring from Florida State in 2001 as professor emerita, she moved to Singapore to teach for two years at Nanyang Technological College. Returning to Tallahassee she soon tired of her second retirement and took over as director of the Radio Reading Service at WFSU-FM, a reading service for the blind and visually impaired.

An extensive world traveler and adventurer, Beth embraced activities ranging from trekking in Nepal to bungee jumping. She loved downhill skiing, swimming, reading, running and playing the flute.

Beth was active in the Killearn United Methodist Church Bell Choir and the Tallahassee Community Chorus. Drawing friends together, she was the inspiration behind the O.F. potluck dinner club for retired FSU SILS faculty as well as the "Whatever" Book Club.

Beth is survived by her father, Arthur D. Lohr of Wilmington, Delaware, her husband, Edric A. Weld of Tallahassee, Florida, her three children, Kathleen Logan Rundquist of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Keith Kellogg Logan of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and Amy Logan Johnston of Addison, Vermont. She is also survived by her three stepchildren, Leisa Weld of Victoria, British Columbia, David Weld of Walnut

Creek, California, and Judith Hill-Weld of Nevada City, California, and 11 grandchildren.

Beth received her undergraduate degree from Oberlin College and her doctorate from Case Western Reserve University.

In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed to the Dr. Elisabeth Lohr Logan Memorial Fund at Oberlin College, established to support women students in the sciences, arts or humanities who will study or complete a research project in the Middle East.
